Our Career Development Unit aids clients in preparing for, obtaining and maintaining employment. Our two-week work readiness workshop teaches clients everything they need to know to participate in the job market and deal with the issues, attitudes and behaviors that can often get in the way of obtaining and maintaining successful employment. During the program, clients learn how to develop a professional resume, are given lessons on financial management and budgeting and participate in mock interviews that allow them to practice explaining their criminal history.

When clients are ready to begin their job searches, they meet one-on-one with skilled employment specialists who send them on interviews with potential employers. Clients have access to a resource lab throughout this process where they can use computers to refine resumes and cover letters and conduct additional job searches. Telephones and faxes are made available for communication with potential employers.

Ongoing counseling and follow-up is provided in person and over the phone by retention specialists.  As a part of follow-up, clients conducting job searches are urged to continue counseling and/or employment assistance while those who are employed are given coaching and support around maintaining employment and career advancement. Mentoring, progress monitoring and other assistance, including additional service referrals are provided through counseling that occurs at set intervals.
