Harvest Life Foundation is a non-profit agency with a vision to create a State where all Texans who are incarcerated or formerly incarcerated are afforded every opportunity to become positive, self-sufficient, contributing members of society. We do this through a holistic, one-stop model of service provision that includes: employment, substance abuse, counseling, career development, education, supportive housing, and aftercare.

Today America leads the world with its incarceration rate and 98% of individuals with a record return home and face more complex challenges to getting and keeping a job (over 650,000 in 2006).  Nationally, approximately 55% of incarcerated men in prison have children under the age of 18.  Over one quarter of offenders being released from Texas prisons will return to Harris County (17,000 in FY2005), and they will predominately return to one of seven Houston neighborhoods.  In addition to this influx of recently released offenders, over 150,000 previously released persons are under community supervision (parole or probation) in Harris County.  Accordingly, approximately 62% of the Houston / Harris County homeless population have a criminal background.

If America is to succeed in addressing this complex and expensive issues, their must be cooperation and collaboration between local, state and federal officials, corporations and local businesses and individuals and local civic groups in our communities.

Harvest Life Foundation’s purpose is to serve individuals with a criminal record and expand the capacity of organizations working with men and women with barriers to employment. Harvest Life Foundation will strive to join organizations together in a collaborative effort to make safer communities for ALL citizens.

Housing (and Employment) First Model.  We believe that by first assisting a person’s essential needs of housing and employment, in a sober, clean supportive environment, the benefit is felt by our clients, their children, and families, and the community when reentrants successfully address the challenges associated with their return and meet their obligations to support their families.
